A Little Visual Snack

 The Glorious Globos

Since 1945, the Ajijic Villagers (and Gringo interlopers) have gathered on the Saturday preceding Independence Day (September 16th) to celebrate the Globos Festival.  Businesses, sports teams, groups of friends or a family will get together and build hot air balloons out of tissue paper.  These can be large or small but all of them are quite creative.  The crowd gathers on the soccer field in close proximity to the balloons as they are being inflated and their flames set alight.  This can result is a sprinkling of mayhem as a number of balloons will catch on fire even before they gain height spewing embers and pieces of burning balloon among the admiring crowd.  It pays to be quick  and vigilant while attending.  The honor (there is no prize per se) goes to the team that manages to build and fly one the highest and furthest -- although how that is determined is quite vague.  So, enjoy the photos.  We'll check in again during or after our next journey.

It's a team effort to launch the globos.

Vendors hawk their wares, taking advantage of the crowds gathered to watch the launches, in this case stacks of cotton candy

This next series of photos shows the total team effort required to launch a single globos.

A successful launch at last!

Enjoy the photos of some of these colorful globos.

This globos met an untimely demise.

Adios for now.  We're off on our next adventure.  Enjoy the beginning of fall or the end of rainy season depending on your locale.
